Amazing scenery and great guides
Veteran pilots operate our modern R44 helicopters, so you can be assured that you are in the best hands. Your tour starts at Knik River Lodge where meet your guide and pilot. After a quick safety briefing and gear check you’ll board the helicopter and whisk off to the alpine meadows, well above timberline. Your guide is an experienced naturalist, knowledgeable about the area and the abundant wildlife and vegetation. June is mating season for the bears and they’ll be very active after a long winter hibernation. In July expect endless wildflowers, in August and September it’s
berry galore plus the vibrant colors of fall. We often see bears, moose and Dall sheep on our hikes and your guide will make sure these are safe and enjoyable encounters for our guests and the animals alike.
Hike on top of the world
The helicopter will drop you off in the high country where spectacular scenery surrounds you. Together you determine ahead of time how long and strenuous you wish to hike. Some people just want to stretch their legs and take pictures for one or two hours while others want to scramble all the way to the top of Mount Palmer and spend up to 4 hours in the mountains. Full day adventures are available at a small surcharge and inlcude a hearty lunch.
While the heli-hiking tour offer plenty of ‘Kodak’ opportunities, the true photographer may be tempted to add some fight time and have the helicopter relocate you to a second location where you’ll have a totally different view of the area. On this tour you’ll be accompanied by a professional photographer who can teach even the most seasoned landscape and wildlife photographer some new skills to really maximize the potential of your equipment. Our guests
always come back with a very big smile from this tour…
