Helicopter flight over Lake George
Lake George is arguably the most beautiful lake in Alaska. Surrounded by rugged mountains and glaciers this is the inner sanctum of the Chugach Range. To the east lies the enormous Colony Glacier. A little to the left is the hanging Cataract Glacier, with waterfalls cascading down its sides. To the west, Whiteout and Troublesome Glacier originate from a huge icefield high in the mountains. Eagles frequent this area and it is one of the premier habitats for mountain goats and Dall sheep in Alaska. Flying over the glacier makes the trip already worthwile but the best is yet to come!
Dog sledding on the glacier
Welcome to sled dog heaven! Land on a glacier at 3500-foot elevation, right in the middle of some of the most amazing mountain scenery in Alaska. You’ll spend a whole hour with our team of real Iditarod sled dogs and their veteran musher. Meet the new puppies, listen to stories from the trail, get an introduction about running sled dogs and watch the exitement of harnessing a dog team. Enjoy your sled dog ride with plenty of opportunities to take pictures and come back inspired by the dogs incredible achievements and the unique relationship with their musher. If you want you can stand on the runners of the sled and mush the dog team yourself (of course of lead musher will keep an eye out to make sure everyone returns to the camp in one piece). On the flight back to the lodge you’il fly low over the glacier to see the veritcal walls of ice that makes this area a favorite with glaciologists around the world.
If you are like most people and don’t want to leave our little piece of paradise you can spend the night in one of our 15 deluxe cabins and enjoy a great meal in our acclaimed restaurant before heading to your next destination.
